Salt, Sugar, Fat–How the Food Giants Hooked Us–A must-read book

I’ve been reading a book by the title Salt, Sugar, Fat: How the Food Giants Hooked Us by Michael Moss. I have to say, anyone who is addicted to junk foods must read this book in order to realize how manipulated you are through your food choices to make a select handful of business men in the United States filthy rich.

They have very sneakily designed their foods with just the right amounts of processed foods, a.k.a. salt, sugar and fat–which are found in natural foods but with the water and fiber still intact which dilutes the impact it has on your body and are essential nutrients to the body, so that you will become addicted to their foods and buy more and more.

Here is a chilling quote from the book:

“I met Bible (one of the former executive’s last names) in late 2011 in the office he used in Greenwich, Connecticut after retiring from Philip Morris in 2002. At Seventy-three, he was twenty years older than Jeffrey Dunn, the former Coca-Cola executive, but both men had strong handshakes and deep tans and were careful eaters, avoiding too much of the kind of foods and drinks their companies sold.”

The other thing Bible had also given up was smoking….at the advice of his doctor.

Ahem. Why IN THE WORLD should YOU eat something that THEY are “careful” not to eat too much of? What is it that they know that you don’t?

Eating real food that is grown yourself is so important in so many ways. Here’s a powerful new video posted on Youtube that protrays this in a profound way:

Even if you can’t grow your own food, you can be more choosy about what food you buy and make sure you buy it from someone who cared how it was grown.

There is so much behind the scenes that goes on that if the public knew, they wouldn’t buy the stuff and these companies would  go out of business  virtually overnight. From the factory farming, to the New Jersey turnpike laboratories where the tastes and smells of fake foods are manufactured, they are virtually drug dealers, because this is not real food. It’s no different that cocaine and heroine, it’s no less addicting, and it’s impact on health is as severe although it’s scope of how many people it affects is far broader.

And it’s legal. In fact, it’s almost becoming illegal to grow your own food and eat healthy.

It’s time to realize and educate yourself on this issue and then take the steps to vote with your dollars to get the kinds of foods you want back into your supermarkets.

And no, I’m not making a dime off of this, and I believe this should be on everyone’s list to give as a gift this upcoming holiday season.

If you care about your loved ones and their health and the health of the planet, THIS IS THE SINGLE MOST IMPORTANT THING YOU CAN DO–get educated and then stop buying processed food in any form.

Did you know that Philip Morris, the tobacco company giant now owns General Foods and makes Kraft Mac & Cheese (which is yellow food dye in it that is banned in other countries but not in the U.S. ) , Cool Whip, Entenmann’s , Oscar Meyer, Jell-O, Velveeta, Grape Nuts, Cocoa Pebbles, Raisin Bran and Lunchables?

Just as they came up with the Marlboro Man to hook people on their cigarettes back in the 60’s, so today they have “diversified” their profolio to having 51% of their company profits come from these processed food brands.

And one of their leading profit makers now is their fruit drinks that they market as “healthy” with “fruit” even though it’s mostly processed sugar and food flavorings.

Do you really want your food addiction that you like to joke about be these companies way of getting filthy rich off with your loss of health just like they did with cigarettes?? EAT REAL FOOD.

Real food tastes great and there are so many great ways  to prepare it. Grandma will tell ya that some things just aren’t progress.
